How to think of Intangible Forces
The Wealthy Gardener leaned forward and picked up an acorn from his desk. He wasn’t too happy with his young friend who was living without direction and developing a cynical attitude toward all things spiritual in nature. At 32 years of age, Jared was floundering and full of excuses.
“Do you know why I keep this acorn in front of me each day?” he asked.
Jared shrugged.
“It’s to remind myself to never be so arrogant as to think I know it all,” the Wealthy Gardener said calmly. “When I look at this tiny acorn, I am reminded of its potential, and I am humbled by the mysteries beyond my understanding. Only Nature can produce a seed and make it grow.”
Jared eyed the acorn. “I suppose this all leads into a lecture?”
“Our fullest potential requires a mind open to unknown possibilities. We must consider the wonders of life that we can’t fully understand—like the stupendous potential of an acorn.”
Jared laughed condescendingly. “I can understand an acorn!”
“Your mind is now like this acorn,” snapped the Wealthy Gardener. “On my desk, it has the potential within it to be a great tree. But this acorn has been on my desk for more than ten years, and what has become of its potential over that time?”
Jared looked thoughtful, but didn’t answer the question.
“Now consider the mystery of it,” the Wealthy Gardener continued. “If we put this seed in fertile soil, it somehow comes to life. A seed that was dormant for ten years will mysteriously grow into a great oak tree. And this tree will produce thousands of acorns like the one on my desk.”
Jared breathed deeply and exhaled. “And the point is?”
“Don’t ever speak lightly of Intangible Forces. When you doubt the unknown, you doubt yourself. You have more potential within you than a tiny acorn, and the Unseen Power is available to help grow your individuality into its fullest expression.”
“I have just one question,” Jared countered. “What if that’s all bullshit?”
“I like to err on the side of caution in spiritual matters,” confessed the Wealthy Gardener. “But to answer your perfectly rational question, if Universal Intelligence is a delusion, then focusing on goals, cultivating faith, developing plans, offering hours, and living with purpose can only help us achieve our dreams. And we may observe a few coincidences that expand our minds.”
