Expecting Daily Challenges.

By John Soforic on 03/02/2020

“A useful life is a challenging life.” – the Wealthy Gardener

Lesson 3-1 Reminder: Challenges

An unprepared mind invites suffering during the challenges of the day. But a battle-ready attitude leads to composure and poise in turbulent conditions.

Life is hard, and it requires a lot of work. Problems are overcome for a day, but soon replaced with new problems. Life can feel like a series of problems.

So what do you do about it? You can resent your days of struggle, or you can approach your life with a battle-ready attitude.

It’s not problems that cause your suffering, but an unprepared mind that allows the suffering. The person who expects daily challenges will not become overwhelmed.  Know that problems await you today––and lean into them.

Leaning into problems means giving hours to them. Problems are no match for impact hours. They always fade with enough time applied to them.

And remember, a life without challenge is a life without contribution.

A useful life surmounts many problems, while the desire for ease causes suffering in your days.

Mental Practices for Wealth

By John Soforic on 02/28/2020

“An inner wisdom will guide you if you only pause to listen.” – the Wealthy Gardener

Lesson 2-5 Reminder: Mental Practices

Wealth requires sacrifice, but it usually involves a few lucky breaks. Only a superficial person ignores the serendipity that harmonizes with aspirations.

You obviously have aspirations, or you wouldn’t be here. You have a special purpose, an ambition, or you would not be interested in this daily seed.

And so, to use your full potential, you must focus your energy.

It’s not enough to kind of have an idea of what you want; you must have a daily ritual of deep concentration on your clear goal. Nurture it with daily attention. See it in your mind’s eye. At first this ritual will give you strength for your work. The daily focus will restore your best attitude. Later, it will seem to connect you to an Intelligence that will hand over ideas, plans, and lucky breaks.

“God gives every bird its food,” Josiah Holland reminds us, “but he doesn’t throw it into the nest.” Hippocrates told us, “While calling on the gods, a man should him-self lend a hand.”

I lend a hand in my own life, but I also maintain a nightly ritual of sitting alone with my goals. I don’t believe in miracles, but I do believe in results that look like miracles.

I think it’s possible that we know very little of our mental potential; I believe much is yet to be learned about the human mind fixated on a clear aim. Give impact hours to use your days, but then concentrate daily on the outcomes you want most.

When you connect with the inner experience of your desires, you will gain strength for the work. And you will discover your fullest powers. An inner wisdom will guide your ways if only you pause to listen.

Extraordinary Sacrifice

By John Soforic on 02/19/2020

“Sacrifices are visible; wishes are invisible.”

LESSON 2-4 REMINDER: EXTRAORDINARY SACRIFICE

We can get a lot of things wrong in life, and still be okay, but we cannot get this one thing wrong. The impact of a lifetime reflects the impact of its hours.

And the difference between talkers versus doers is sacrifice.

Those who are wishing are moving their mouths. Those who are sacrificing are moving their bodies. Sacrifices are visible; wishes are invisible.

“A great work demands a great sacrifice,” said Muriel StrodeI, “and who is not capable of a great sacrifice is not capable of a great work.”

When you are striving and sacrificing for an ambitious goal, people will see the actions, the overtime hours, the perseverance, and the plodding labor.

And to average people, it will look like an obsession. They’ll see uncommon efforts, and probably judge you as a workaholic. You’ll make many people around you feel uncomfortable, because your actions will contrast their own.

But so much of the difference in outcomes, between people of similar abilities, is how we spend our free hours. Sacrifice is found in your free hours.

You’ll pay the price of an extraordinary life, or you’ll pay the regrets of an average life. The first requires a sacrifice of hours, but the second requires a sacrifice of dreams. We either choose, or fail to choose, our use of a lifetime
